The Insect-Dying

The existence of the insect-dying cannot be argued away no longer. There are too many studies about it today.
Now it goes about the sovereignty of interpretation.


Antecedent


The so called German Energiewende was started to rescue the environment and the climate of the world without a lack of consume of the inhabitants because the fossile energy ressources will fade away one day. It was canted that the production of energy out of wind with propellers would have no alternatives and would be "clean". With "clean" it was meant, that the atomic- and coal-electricity would be "dirty" because they produce radioactive trash and CO2. It was said, that propeller windmills would not produce special waste and the intervention in the environment would be little and only visual. A "few" slew birds and bats were calculated, the slew insects were not worth a comment because insects are vermin for the most people.

At this nonsense the German so called "anthroposophs" worked with at first place. They justify their high prices within their whole-food shops with the argument, that their electricity would be "100% clean nature-electricity". The businessplans for the buildings of the propeller windmills were made by the anthroposophic Triodos bank. The turbines are made by the Siemens company. Note: Peter von Siemens was anthroposoph within the first circle and a supporter of the atomic energy. So anthroposophs earn double, can pay their electricity easily and point with the finger towards an housewife who is buying some strawberries in the winter. Anthroposophs are humans who believe, that there is some kind of "higher" sense in the tapeworm-sentences of a guy with the name Rudolf Steiner. They own a special kind of arrogance. Mr. Steiner founded the anthroposophs by separating them of the theosophs to become not replaceable by others. He provoked many argues to get his shism. Mr. Steiner said, that the payment of work would be wrong because work has an higher value as a thing. This is good for the owners of the trees and bad for the pickers. But anthroposophs have no difficulties of accepting money from teachers or lorry-drivers.

And because something cannot be that is not allowed to be, the environmentalists have a problem to put the insect-dying in their good/bad scheme. But they have to try it because too many people noticed it already.


The Scapegoats


Guilty they say is the not "biological-dynamical" agriculture because of its use of pestizides. This is the trained explanation route. Especially the glyphosat shall be the evil cause. The Monsanto company haters of the German BUND are not getting tired to point with their fingers upon glyphosate and gene technology. But glyphosat is not that extreme poison and is used since the seventies of the last century. So if it would be so toxic towards insects biologists must have seen it years ago. Of course Monsanto has in interest of a prohibition of glyphosat because the patents runned out.

Example: Yeast produces alcohol. Alcohol is toxic towards enterococcus. The wife of an apple-farmer does not want to drink the beer at the farm-festival, therefore she knocks it back at an apple-tree secretly. But the wife of the moslemic neighbour (pear-farmer) has seen it. The husband wants to buy some apples. His wife asks him, if he does not have fear, there is some alcohol within the apples.

The German NABU says that the building of streets, villages and industry also reduces the insect population. But they do not mention the propeller-windmills in the article on:

because "Natur" is a main media of the environmentalists. The thought, that the clean propeller-windmills could do some harm towards insects is taboo, they do not want to make problems for the governmental project of the "energiewende", they receive money from the government in contrast to Monsanto.

This is a perkiness. They took a logarithmic scale. At a logarithmic scale the difference between 100 and 1000 is the same like between 0.001 and 0.01. There is no zero. So every study can made shining harmless because the curve can be pushed as far up as wanted. The curve will get more even.

But propeller do not only kill birds and bats directly by hit but also insects of course.

As one can notice easily out of the picture, insects fly in a height of 100m.

So we can figure out already: several kilogramm of dead insects per propeller windmill and year by hit are not seen by the environmentalists, even this already can be the end of rare species.


So just read the chapter in the script "The energy of the wind is an active protection of environment and nature" by Armin Keuper (1994): "The theme insects will only be mentioned shortly, because probable the travel by car to count the dead insects upon the propeller blades causes already more dead insects than on the blade itself are. And the next propeller generation will have a height of the hub of 40-50m at a diameter of the rotor of 40m. So the bottom limit is about 20-30m. The most insects prefer a height of 0-30m (6). Therefore the hit of insects at windmills is negligibly small."

Then they say that nitric oxides and fine dust would be the reason for the insect-dying. But this only is an attempt to dis the the Diesel engine to promote the demand for electric cars because this is good for the "economy" (quotation marks because they mean with "economy" the profit of the elites). But it is not to see, why nitric oxides should do more harm towards little animals than bigger ones, because so more small a species is the more fast it gets immune.

Even the assertion, the insect-dying is a sign of the climate change is easily to refute. Insects prefer warmth.

So there is only missing the lack of vaccinations as a reason: because we do not reach a vaccination-quote of 100% a virus jumped...


Neonicotinoids


The tobacco plant belongs to the family of the nightshades. Many important plants belong to this family: potato, tomato, paprika and tobacco. Plants of the nightshade family often contain many alcaloids. Alcaloids are organic molecules that contain nitrogen.
The tobacco safes itself against insects by producing nicotine, so nicotine is very interesting for chemists. They put halogen atoms at the molecule. This makes the molecule more toxic. The name for this new molecules is: Neonicotinoids.

Biologists found out, that plants take neonicotinoids by their roots and leaves and that they can storage them in their juices. So they are safe for long time against insects. So insects lose an important source of food. So neonictinoids are responsible for the fading away of insects, too. But neonicotinoids are in use for more than 30 years, the insect-dying appeared 15 years ago.

The chemical structures

Explanation for non-chemists: The letters stands for the different atoms: C for carbon, N for nitrogen, O for oxygen, H for hydrogen, P for phosphorus, Cl for chlorine and S for sulphur.
The strokes are the ties between the atoms. At the corners are carbon atoms. Mostly they are not written in because they are very often. C has 4 ties, H, Cl one, O and S two, N three and P five. If there are not 4 ties drawn at the C atom, there are H atoms.


As you can see, glyphosate and nicotine have no halogen atoms (Br, Cl, F). Thiacloprid and Acetamiprid have, therefore they are more toxic and more difficult to reduce. As a chemist easily can see, glyphosate is easy to be reduced because the HO-groups are not very stable. The common thing of the neonicotinoids is that they have all a ring with 5 C atoms and one N atom ("pyridine-ring"). As you can see, the herbicide glyphosate belongs not to the neonicotionids because it does not have this ring. For animals and insects this ring is toxic, that is the reason why people smoke tobacco. So glyphosate is not responsible for the insect-dying.

After the patents ran out, the WHO found out that glyphosate makes propably cancer. Well, but look on the picture:

Note: Neonicotinoids are used for the "clean" energy, too. Sun and wind provides not constant energy. Therefore unused fields were changed into energy fields with maize. And maize is a tropical plant and need much protection.


Excretes


The hygiene is very important not only for the health of humans but also for the animals. And there is one simple rule: excretes and carcass have to be put away. But excretes and carcass are ideal breeding-places for many insects. In the modern agriculture there are no excretes and carcass on the fields any more. Farmers plough the excrements under within 4 hours. This causes a decline of some insects, too.


High Frequencies


Because we nowadays use wireless telephones there are many transmitters. And these radiate electromagnetic waves with very high frequencies. Nobody knows how insects react on this. Because insects are very little, they will use high frequencies if they found a way to use electromagnetics waves for their purposes, too.


The Wakes


What is not being recognized until today, because they are hardly to see, are the wakes behind the propeller-windmills.

Like giant mixers the propeller-windmills whisk the first laminar flow of the wind. This results in a giant wake behind the propeller-windmill. Special conditions made it possible to take a picture of them at the Danish windpark Horns Rev. The humidity of air was near a point to build a fog. The diffent pressures within the wake brought the humidity to condense and so it became able to see the wake.

As you can see easily, the wakes do not stop some hundred meters behind the propeller, they lay down on earth several kilometers like a "V". Has a laminar flow become turbulent it is very difficult to get it laminar again. The wake consists out of whirls and in a whirl of 10m diameter there are whirls of 1mm diameter.

And in this wakes it is impossible for insects to fly to take scent.

At X there is a source of food or a female waiting for mating. The source sends a odour trace. Now the beetle has the task to finde the odour trace and follow it to its source.
In the laminar flow it is no big problem. The beetle just have to hold the course and is not allowed to lose the odour trace.
In the turbulent flow this is impossible. The air has to many whirls to fly. This costs much more energy for the beetle to fly. Also the odour trace becomes much more fastly diluted and changes the direction very often. And this from one second to another different. The beetle cannot hold the course and keep the odour trace. After 100 attempts the beetle dies of exhaustion.
And exspecially to avoid the whirls by natural obstructions like trees or hills the beetle flies in a height of 100m for transit.

(I cannot say something about the infra-sound. It is clear that a turbulent flow produces infra-sound and that small animals prefer high frequencies.)


30.000 wakes of the 30.000 propeller-windmills cover Germany.

In this fact I see the real reason for the insect-dying.

With the insects also the birds and amphibians die, too, because they need the insects as food.
What causes the tilting of the balance in nature will have, the Germans and their neighbours will notice in some years.


Of course "environmentalists" shun me and where this is not able they bad-mouth. The typical course is: I want atomic waste, want to flood the Fiji islands, want to give pregnant women gene food with pestizides. They have no arguments against my wake-theory.
They do not want to admit that their "clean" energiewende could be more "dirty" as they always write in their newspapers and they do not want to lose the environmental-taxes.
Somebody who do not work (for the Christians), shall not eat. So the 150.000 employees of the propeller-industry in Germany have fear of losing their jobs. And this fear is the food of the lobbyists. But it is not wise and sustainable.



Locations

On the picture above there are the windmills and windparks marked in Germany in the year 2011. As you can see, in the north there are more than in the south. On the first sight this is an argument against the wake-theory. But: because insects are very little they fly more easily than birds. The monarch butterfly is able to fly 4000km within its lifetime. The air resistance is very low and the insect uses the laminar wind.

Hummingbirds are birds that copied the flight of the insects. This was only possible by getting smaller. The Rubinkehlkolibri has a weight of 3g and can fly a distance of 2000km without stop.


Mathematics


The surface of a ball is: F = 4*π*r².

The volume of a ball is: V = 4/3*π*r³.

That means, at a ball the surface goes square and the volume cubic with the radius.
So the ratio between surface and volume is:

n = F/V = 3/r

And this is a hyperbola.

That means, that the smaller a body becomes, the bigger goes the surface relatively. An atom only exists out ouf surface and not of core.
This is very important for little living beings.
A ball of 1kg aluminium is bigger than an 1kg ball out of iron but they both fall down with the same speed because they are relatively huge and the friction of the air can be forgotten. But if you take 2 balls with a mass of 0.001g the situations looks quite different. Then the ball out of aluminium falls faster than the one out of iron because it has a greater radius and therefore a lower ratio of surface to volume. The mini-ironball sinks slower. We know this form the fine particulate matter. Because of this fact it is possible to segregate particles in dependency of the diameter.

For insects this means, the smaller one is, the slower it falls down. That means that really small insects like mosquitos or fruit flies do not fly, like we know of birds, they swim in the air.


The Air-Drag

There are laminar and turbulent flows of gases and fluids. At a laminar flow layers with different velocities glide along themselves without mixing. At a turbulent flow they mix and there are whirls.

The physicists examined the differences and they found out, that the air-drag within a laminar flow is proportional with the velocity (Stokes-friction) and in a turbulent flow with the square of the friction (Newton-friction). So if you want to move a body in a laminar flow with the double speed, the air-drag doubles, too. In a turbulent flow in this case the air-drag is four times higher.

For flying living beings it means, that they can only move in a turbulent flow very slow. Do they want to move fast, the need of energy rises much faster.


The Settling Velocity

If a body drops down, it receives an acceleration. With the velocity the air-drag rises, too. Finally there is a velocity where both forces are equal and the body sinks downs with an even speed, the so called settling velocity. The value does not only depend upon the body itself but also of the media, in which it moves. And it is a difference whether there are whirls behind the body or if there are already whirls in the flow.

Are there no whirls, the settling velocity goes with the square. If the air is turbulent, then it goes with the square root of the diameter of the body.

For little flying living beings it is a bigger difference than for bigger ones. The smaller an insect is, the heavier it becomes in a turbulent flow. For insects this means, that a little beetle, that wants to get from the ground into a height of 10 m must spend much more energy in ratio to his body than an eagle, when the flow is turbulent.
This meditations are just transformed physics of a ball upon insects, they tell us nothing about a far to fast stall at the alas of the insects, the problems of the locating with the antennas and the navigation in whirls. This problems are far too complicate.

And we can figure out: turbulences are a poison for insects.

What wakes are in the air are strudels on the surface of the water. And it is well known that even good swimmer can drown in a strudel.

What we need today:
The meteoroligists measure the temperature, the velocity of the wind, the humidity and the pressure of the air. But today we need to know the quality of the flow, that means how laminar or turbulent the wind is. So we need a measurement how often and strong the wind changes the direction horizontally and vertically and the pressure per hour. Wakes are chaotic. That means that it is needed to have a Ljupunov-exponent. The less the air is wake-polluted the lower is the Ljupunov-exponent.


Example: Painted Lady


Wandering butterflies live about one year and they travel without problems 2.000km. When there is every 5km a propeller-windmill, then the butterfly has to fight through 400 wakes. So it can resign without attempt, with thanks to the environmentalists.

Germany is covered for 15 years with a thick blanket of wakes. If an insect wants to fly from A to B, it must pass nowadays many turbulent flows. This costs much more energy like shown above using balls. There is a rule: the smaller a living being is, the more energy it needs to go through a turbulent flow. The beetle has to fly the far longer white route.

As we found out, not only some birds overwinter in Africa but also some butterflies like the Painted Lady. In springtime it moves into the north. There are some different routes as you can see on the map, the routes are along the coastes where the onshore wind comes from the side. And exactly there are nowadays the most propeller windmills.

The Painted Lady has no use for rye or potatoes, the Painted Lady prefers thistles. So it does not matter to it, whether there is glyphosate-maize or wheat on its route as long as it finds thistles with its antennas.

If 1.000 Painted Lady butterflies wanted to fly 1.000km into the south before winter, on the journey 100 died of exhaustion and 200 were eaten by birds. Today the same flight costs the insects much more energy and time, so now are 700 dying of exhaustion, 100 due to propeller-hit and 50 are eaten by birds (there are less birds today). This is too much. The insects die out. (The numbers in this example are to comprehend as ponters for the dimensions.)

The simulation is made not for air but for water, because they are planning to use the water flow for energy-production by propellers and they want to know which distance is best. Red areas are areas where there are many whirls. In a light medium like air the wake is longer.
